About Sourced Market
Sourced Market was founded by Ben O’Brien & Tim Harvey in 2007. The first business I started was an artist management company, Nuxx. One of the perks of the job was the time I spent at events and music festivals. Whilst the music may have been outstanding, the food was invariably dire. Yet at the time, both my flat and office were above Borough Market – so I had an amazing array of food literally on my doorstep.
Tim Harvey & Ben O’Brien
I watched it grow from a small market to the world-renowned destination it is today. I also became good friends with the various producers at Borough and gained a greater understanding of the importance of provenance, sustainability and real food.
Tim meanwhile had been playing a major role in events such as Bestival, Glade and Big Chill and co-founded both the Secret Garden and the Lovebox Weekender. Over the years the age and type of festival-goers changed… and there were an increasing number like us that were also after fantastic food at festivals. So, working with some of the more entrepreneurial traders, we decided to take the concept of the farmers’ market "on tour". Great food and great music just seemed like a winning combination!
Sourced Market was born and our first event was the Innocent Village Fete in 2007. The Observer Food Monthly jumped on board to sponsor us and lots of happy traders and festival-goers later, it was clear we had hit on a great idea. Over the last two years we have provided food at events from Lovebox and the Big Chill to Polo in the Park, where possible using local producers. Not wanting to stop here, we were also convinced that there had to be an alternative to the sterile, homogenous supermarket aisles and that we could bring the quality, variety and atmosphere of markets to a wider audience but in a more convenient way. We found a permanent home for Sourced Market at St Pancras International. The first of its kind, it now makes high quality, artisan produce available to London’s busy commuters seven days a week, while also supporting the nation’s outstanding small producers.
Still keen to stay in touch with our roots and work with the smallest producers, we're very excited that November will see the launch of a new monthly produce market in the centre of Clapham. Here the focus will be on helping small or new producers and growers within the local community.
For us street markets are vital. They allow us to work with the smallest and most seasonal producers and to be at the very heart of a community. They are as much a part of what Sourced Market is about as our new permanent market in St Pancras.
We're always trying to do better and really appreciate feedback - good or bad - from our customers. Drop us an email at info@sourcedmarket.com
